I knew I loved hot green tea, but I had no idea how amazing it was going to be in an ice cold milkshake. It’s my new summer staple!

In addition to this Chocolate Strawberry Milkshake or Best Ever Vegan Chocolate Milkshake, we now have another tasty and easy to make milkshake to add to the recipe collection!

We all hear about how good matcha is for you. Adding a little to smoothies and shakes is an easy way to incorporate its health benefits into your diet.

You can find #matcha in just about anything these days. It has become a trend that I hope is here to stay!

Benefits of matcha

Of all the teas, green teas are the least processed and hold the most anti-oxidants. Matcha (meaning ‘powdered tea’) is finely ground green teas leaves. It holds the most benefits over other green teas due to the processing and ingestion of the whole tea leaf.

Green tea is high in antioxidants called, polyphenols, which act to protect against cancer and helps to slow the effects of aging. You can also use it for an energy boost and to aid in weight loss.

Matcha Milkshake Ingredients

The flavor of matcha conjures up notes of grassiness with a lovely umami character, and pairs perfectly with the Silk Nutchello Toasted Coconut & Cashews I’ve chosen to use in this recipe. It has just the amount of sweetness and flavor to pair with the matcha powder.

Use one frozen banana to add bulk and creaminess. If using an unfrozen banana, you want to add a few ice cubes.

If you rather sweeten your shake on your, own their Silk Unsweetened Coconut Milk would be great here too. Just add a date or drizzle of maple syrup before blending.

Top off your shake with toasted coconut flakes and dark chocolate shaving and it’s a delicious treat any time of day!

  1. Yum! Anyone interested in this stuff should definitely check out the book Everyday Roots. It teaches you how to replace all the toxic chemicals in your life with healthy organic alternatives. Its completely changed my life and how I feel everyday! :)

    Keep up the great content!

  2. Could you also use brewed green tea, if you don’t have matcha?

    1. Julie | The Simple Veganista says:

Sorry for the delayed response. The matcha works best because it’s a powder that gets mixed in with everything. I suppose you could use brewed tea and add a little milk. I’d stick with matcha, but if you do give it a try I’d love to know how it went! :)

  3. I love your blog, but I’m so sad that you’ve gone the route of making money by advertising milk that has so many chemicals and sugar added to it.

    1. Julie | The Simple Veganista says:

Thank you Shea, and I do apologize if this disappoints you. I had a hard time deciding whether or not to promote the Nutchello because of the added sugar. I typically only use & promote unsweetened non-dairy milks. After some research and thinking, I decided that this product is good. I use and recommend other add-in products for the blog like dark chocolate chips for baking that contains added sugar. Sounds silly but that was what made me say ok to featuring Silk’s Nutchello. I consider this a treat like chocolate that can be enjoyed in moderation. It has about the same amount of sugar per serving as dark chocolate chips. As for chemicals, I researched and checked the ingredients, there is no junk here. They’ve even removed the controversial ‘carrageenan’. The ingredients do include ‘natural flavors’ which can be a mystery…but even the unsweetened almond milk that I always use has this labeled. Taking everything into consideration, I stand behind this product and am perfectly fine with giving a shout out to Silk’s Nutchello. It’s a delicious product (especially in this shake!) that can be enjoyed every now and then. :)
